Dream Workers

2011 Race Day

The sun may not have shone, but at least we had some horse races this year, when the 140 strong crowd came to the Gold Coast Turf Club on March 5th to help Dream Workers raise some much needed funds for Youngcare.

MC, Marc Renai, once again outdid himself, as he steered the crowd through the Heads and Tails game, a human horse race around the tables and the most unusual fashion parade that anyone has ever witnessed.

The men slid onto their backs in the rain, and were forced to take their shirts off in order to win the competition. The ladies needed to remove their heels to try to win the fashion stakes in the shoes. They also resorted to pulling in a body builder and a belly dancer just to try to win the fascinator competition…but you had to be there!

A lot of laughs were had by all and over $10,000 was raised for Youngcare to help with the construction of their new facility on the Gold Coast for young people in care.

Ben Smith — our junior photographer on the day, wore his fingers off as his shutter clicked all day to capture the spirit of this years Race Day

Thank you so much to our many sponsors who gave so generously to make it such an amazing day and to our great guests who made it such a fun day.

For those of you who know me (Auntie Janine Wilson) it will come as no surprise to you that on February, 26th 2012 I will be swimming the Rottnest Channel Swim in Western Australia.  This is a 19.7 km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island.  The difference this time round is that my beautiful daughter Tess will be on a surf ski next to me as my support crew. (Some of you may remember Tessa’s commitment to my craziness when she stood in torrential rain for 12 hrs 40 mins in NZ when I raced in the Iron-woman event.

So why a 19.7 km swim? Well we are doing this to raise money for our gorgeous niece / cousin Tilly Wilson, she was born with Cerebral Palsy in 200r8 and having Cerebral Palsy means that all the things we take for granted physically are a struggle for Tilly.  Simple things like sitting, crawling, walking and talking are some of the daily tasks early intervention can help her achieve.  Equipment and specialised care expensive but so far have made a huge difference.

The immediate goal is to raise funds to help purchase a communication device before she starts school next year.  Tilly is a 4 year old that has plenty to say (she is a Wilson) but just needs a different way to communicate.

I would really love for you to get behind me on this cause to “HELP TILLY TALK” by offering a small donation towards my goal.

Tilly’s smile lights up a room, her energy and vibrancy is infectious.  You could swim a marathon on that alone.  If I can raise some money to help purchase a communication device it would be a wonderful achievement.
